MultiCorps (2017-2020)

Nomad Theater of Casablanca, Morocco

Performance / concept: Sandie Brischler

The multi-rope is a little-known apparatus, which has been taken up and developed by the Nomade theatre company in Casablanca, in a structure of a unique and particularly impressive dimension.

Resulting from a collaboration with the Théâtre Nomade, the artist Sandie Brischler proposed to exploit this multi-rope, this unusual equipment to explore her personal and transversal creative research between dance, aerial, video and sound experiences. In addition to the multi-dimensional and particularly aesthetic quality of this apparatus, the artist also proposes to reveal an inherent, interior, living meaning, related to the body and all the symbolism of the bond and the rope.

This project was created in collaboration with the artist Abdellah M.Hassak, for an original sound creation.

» MultiCorps  » is a performance using the multi-rope apparatus, which consists of around a hundred white ropes suspended from a high bar. This performative research is part of my ongoing research between body and plasticity, space and writing. By exploring several levels and dimensions, this creation aims to connect the body and aerial dance with the audio-visual space (sound space and video projections) and textual space (words, writing).

»  In this project, I wish to continue exploring the transversal dimension of creation, notably by integrating texts inspired by the creative process. This performance offers a poetic journey in several tableaux, where the body is transported in different states between the ground, gravity and ropes, in aerial suspension and in interaction with other stage elements.

A body explores the universe of connection, and evolves among a multitude of suspended smooth ropes, white and vertical. The intertwining and the shared history of the body and the ropes in their verticality, between gravity and weightlessness, generates a set of visual images that delivers several messages to us, the framework of a metaphorical story: Sensual, enveloping and multiple, the ropes become « one » with the body, they chain it or free it… They refer to attachment, to the bonds that define us, but also to letting go and to a fluid freedom in which we lose ourselves or we reconnect…

It is a body-to-body facing infinity, facing the transcendence of the pure and silent lines that cross it, that plunge it towards the ground or that launch it towards the sky, like a hope that becomes the secret movement of a vital dynamic traversed by this body that struggles there, attaches itself to it, merges with it or finds itself there… and is finally reborn there, among the strings, like so many bodies. This research also speaks of the underlying tension between the body-strings, with sound and words. Between suspension, weightlessness and gravity, how the body speaks, writes, and is inscribed in a sound universe in tension, to become a space of resonance, a transmitting element between different elements that echo it.
