Biographie

Sandie Brischler is a French artist who lived and worked in Germany and then Morocco, before moving to Brussels in 2018. After studying scenography, literature and psychology at the Sorbonne University in Paris, where she explored the relationship between art, writing and the unconscious, she began a career in photography in 2002 and then in the plastic and visual arts.

Her work focuses on graphic trace and the world of writing and signs, in relation to the body. In 2005, she won the prize for young creation from the DRAC Champagne-Ardennes (Ministry of Culture). Between 2006 and 2018, she held a number of residencies and solo and group exhibitions with internationally renowned galleries (among others, Galerie Förster in Berlin and Galerie Abla Ababou in Rabat, Morocco).

After an international career in the visual arts, she also devotes herself to performance in connection with drawing and graphic trace. In her research, she explores multidisciplinary fields at the intersection of several practices that aim to reflect on the body and its traceability, but also on the transversality of arts, cultures and means of expression, through writing and drawing. Favoring the interaction between different forms of expression (plastic arts, dance, texts, sound spaces, images and video), her performances are more specifically oriented on the relationship to writing from a plastic and bodily point of view, her research brings together a plastic and transversal dimension that brings into play the body, space and image. From 2010 to 2014 she produced a series of solo performances on the theme of the body and the graphic sign (the  » Body-writing  «  series ) which she presented at several international festivals and artistic events, including the opening of the Berlin Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2014.

She is currently developing her work as a performer and visual artist through artistic experiments that find unity through her performative and visual research. Video has also always been very present in her work. She has made two experimental films, the first in 2004, entitled  »  Icono-Stase  « , which was selected at the Videoformes festival in Clermond Ferrand. Later in 2019 she directed the experimental documentary  »  Semantics of the Void   » (52 min), resulting from performative research on artistic transversality around the theme of the Void. The preview was scheduled in a small group at Hiba-Lab, an experimental cinema in Rabat (Morocco) in March 2020.

Also trained in art therapy, she is also active in the educational field and her artistic approach has always been strongly oriented towards transmission. She has also been active for many years as a speaker for courses, classes and workshops, with the aim of developing the creative potential of individuals.
